Former senior solicitor and (since 2004) barrister, Tony Willis has now conducted more than 800 mediations as well as advising on dispute resolution mechanisms and solutions. Mediations have involved a wide variety of issues including: • Insolvency • Charity • IT • Tax • Regulatory • Construction • Boardroom disputes • Oil and gas • Partnership • Professional negligence • Employment • Family trusts and inheritance • Insurance and reinsurance Tony mediates in the UK and elsewhere. Recent mediations have been undertaken in New York, Belgium, Romania and Dubai. Parties have included Governments and UK Government departments such as the Home Office, Ministry of Defence, HM Revenue and Customs and DEFRA. He has consistently ranked at the top of the list of mediators in the Legal 500 and Chambers Guide. Tony joined Coward Chance in 1970, was made litigation partner in 1973, then joint managing partner from 1987-89 before becoming head of the litigation practice until 1997. He became an independent mediator in 1998 and was called to the bar by Middle Temple in October 2004. Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators (US). Member of hte International Panel of Distinguished Mediators of CPR (New York). Panel Member for the American Arbitration Association. Member of the Civil Mediation Council (CMC). While on the Board of the CMC, Tony was concerned with designing the Pilot Accrediation Scheme for Providers and is on the Accreditation Committee continuing to deal with applications.
