Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession, 2001-07

Charles Middleton-Smith has been a partner at Hammonds in London since 1991. With over 25 years' experience in business dispute resolution, he has enthusiastically emphasised and developed his practice as a mediator since 1999.

Charles can be relied upon to deal with the inevitable surprises of the mediation process with calmness, authority and optimism. He actively seeks new learning on negotiation, gap closing strategies and mediator options.

Given his lengthy commercial experience, Charles continues to be appointed in a wide variety of business and legal contexts, with sums involved ranging between £50,000 and £100,000,000.

Areas of particular experience include:

• Media and entertainment
• Sport
• Intellectual property
• Disputes with an international dimension (reflecting his legal practice)
• Agency and distribution contracts (especially Commercial Agents’ Regulations)
• Financial services
• Corporate and commercial contract cases

Charles describes his style as prioritising the commercial aspects, the future and reality, momentum, humour, courtesy and flexibility.
