Are there any risks?
No.  Either party can withdraw at any stage and cannot have a settlement imposed on them.  Parties only need reveal the information they want to.  The discussions are entirely without prejudice to any current or future litigation.

In a few cases, mediation fails to result in a comprehensive solution.  However, the mediation process is usually helpful, providing insight into the other parties’ attitudes, and may encourage negotiation at a later date.
